We are always on the lookout for local people to help us run Transition Chesterfield.

Transition Town Chesterfield is a community volunteer run group. It is an overarching group concerned with issues in Chesterfield around living more sustainably and helping to mitigate the impact of climate change. We are involved in many projects such as Potato Day, Repair Café, Abundance and Seed Swap. We have also been instrumental in getting other projects off the ground such as Inspire Gardens, Dr Bike and Plastic Free Chesterfield.

As well as our usual volunteering opportunities at Repair Cafe and Potato Day we are currently looking for someone to fill these roles:

Volunteer Treasurer

As a Volunteer Treasurer you will help to manage Transition Chesterfield’s accounts so that they are in order and can be independently examined in time for our AGM. Your background in handling accounts or similar financial matters will be essential for keeping on top of this work and ensuring that all transactions are recorded along with appropriate documentation.

Transition Chesterfield’s central organising Core Group has 4-6 members, including Treasurer and Secretary and gets re-elected at our annual AGM in August. Each member can stand for a maximum of 4 years and our current Treasurer is due to stand down in August 2022.

This volunteer position will give you a vital role in ensuring the work of a key Climate organisation in Chesterfield is run on a sound financial basis.

Volunteer Secretary

As a Volunteer Group Secretary, you will be responsible for convening the group’s monthly meetings, taking notes and ensuring actions are followed through. You will also monitor and respond to any enquiries to the group and facilitate the involvement of any new members. You will ensure that all key decisions of the group receive support from enough Core Group members.

Transition Chesterfield’s central organising Core Group has 4-6 members, including Treasurer and Secretary and gets re-elected at our annual AGM in August. Each member can stand for a maximum of 4 years. Our current Secretary took over the responsibility temporarily during lockdown but needs to stand down due to her commitment with various other projects.

This volunteer position will give you valuable work experience in helping to ensure a key Climate organisation in Chesterfield is run on a sound basis and has a cohesive framework for supporting sustainable projects and actions.

Volunteer Social Media Assistant

As a Volunteer Social Media Assistant you will help to grow Transition Town Chesterfield’s social media following across Facebook, Twitter and possibly Instagram. Your creativity and ideas for engaging posts will enable people to interact with posts and encourage discussion on living sustainably both as individuals and across the community.

This volunteer position will give you valuable work experience in the field of social media and will help you grow your CV.

Volunteer Admin Assistant

As a Volunteer Admin Assistant, you will help the Repair Café co-ordinator to promote and organise a forthcoming event in March focussed on Repair and the Circular Economy, making connections with suitable attendees and promoting attendance etc through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Your creativity and ideas for engaging posts will enable people to interact with posts and encourage discussion on the circular economy and need to reduce waste.

Transition Town Chesterfield is a community volunteer-run group. Chesterfield Repair Café is one of its projects. Funding has been received from the Restart Project to promote Repair networking in the East Midlands and support projects related to reducing waste. The event will be held on Saturday 19th March 2022 at Chesterfield Assembly Rooms.

This volunteer position will give you valuable work experience in the field of event organisation and promotion and will help you grow your CV.
