Divestment Day of Action

3 November 2021 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am

Wed 3 November, 8am, County Hall

A giant oil monster will drop in on County Hall, Matlock next week, when we join in a national day of action against council pension funds being invested in fossil fuels businesses.

The 10ft high monster puppet, modelled on the Jabberwocky, will be accompanied by masked oil barons and campaigners carrying banners calling on the Derbyshire Pension Fund to clean up its act and withdraw the millions of pounds it has pumped into oil and gas corporations.

Transition Chesterfield is part of the campaign coalition Divest Derbyshire, who together with the Derbyshire Pensioners’ Action Group will give Council staff going to work information about action they can take to ensure their pensions are invested in green technology and low carbon infrastructure rather than climate-wrecking fossil fuels.

We are also emailing around 200 major employers of the Derbyshire Pension Fund, including schools, colleges, district councils and the Fire and Police services. We are asking the employers to forward information about the fossil fuel investments to their employees who contribute to the pension fund.

If you are a member of the Pension Fund and would like to take action please find some sample text for an email and contact details here. If you would like to join the action on 3 November please contact Lisa at divest@transitionchesterfield.org.uk
